Short notification sounds for every app
Your phone makes dozens of sounds a day. A good notification sound tells you something happened without making you jump. The default sounds on most phones are fine, but everyone else has them too. A fresh notification tone helps you know it is your phone, not the one on the next desk.
Every notification sound download here is made by us or released under CC0 or CC BY, with the licence shown on each page. Most of our alert tones are 1 to 3 seconds long, clean and easy to hear.
What makes a good notification sound?
- Short: under 3 seconds, so it does not interrupt.
- Clear: a bright first note you notice even in noise.
- Not annoying: soft enough that you do not dread hearing it fifty times a day.
Can I use different sounds for different apps?
Yes, and it is a smart idea. On Android, open Settings, then Apps, choose an app, tap Notifications and pick a sound for each type of alert. You might set a soft chime for email, a pop for social apps and a sharp ping for your bank. On iPhone, you can change text, mail, calendar and reminder sounds in Settings → Sounds & Haptics, but most third-party apps use their own sounds.
Notification sound or message tone: what is the difference?
They are similar. A message tone is usually set for SMS and chat apps, while a notification sound covers everything else. Many of the tones on this page work for both. For waking up, use our alarm tones. For calls, see all ringtones.
