How long should a message tone be?
Keep it short. One to three seconds is ideal for chats that arrive often. Up to five seconds works for SMS from important contacts. Longer tones start to feel annoying when a group chat gets busy. How do I set a message tone on my phone?
On Android, open your Messages app, tap the menu, then Settings → Notifications and choose a sound. Some phones also have Settings → Sound and vibration → Notification sound. Yes. On iPhone, open the contact, tap Edit, then Text Tone. On Android, open the conversation in Google Messages, tap the three dots, choose Details → Notifications and pick a sound. It is a handy way to know when family or your boss texts you.
